Bill Richardson is an American political figure who has served in a number of elected and appointed positions. He served as a member of the US House of Representatives from 1983-1997, United States Ambassador to the United Nations from 1997-1998, as the US Secretary of Energy from 1998-2001, and as Governor of New Mexico from 2003-2011. He sought the US Presidency in 2008 but eventually withdrew and supported Barack Obama who seriously considered him to be his Vice Presidential running mate.
