John Paul Stevens is a retired Associate Justice of the US Supreme Court, who was appointed by President Gerald Ford in 1975 and served until his retirement on June 29, 2010 making him the 3rd longest serving Supreme Court Justice in history. By his retirement, he was widely considered to have been on the liberal side of the Court and was known for his dissents in prominent cases including Bush v. Gore and Citizens United v. FEC. Prior to his legal career, he served as a naval intelligence officer during WWII and was awarded a Bronze Star for his service in the code-breaking team whose work led to the downing of Japanese Admiral Yamamoto's plane in 1943.

Peter Capaldi is a Scottish actor who is best known for portraying the 12th Doctor in the Science Fiction series Doctor Who and He also starred as Malcolm Tucker in the British political sitcom 'The Thick of It' and it's spinoff film 'In the Loop' for which he won the 2010 Best Male Comedy Performance BAFTA. Outside of acting he is an accomplished director and writer, winning the 1995 Academy Award for Best Live Action Short Film and Best Short Film BAFTA for 'Franz Kafka's It's a Wonderful Life'.

TTM Success - Kissing Sailor George Mendonsa

George Mendonsa served as a sailor in the United States Navy. On August 14, 1945 a photo of him kissing a nurse in Times Square after the announcement of the Japanese surrender was taken by Life photographer Alfred Eisenstadt. The photo has become one of the most iconic pictures ever taken. While many people have claimed to be the sailor in the photo, Mendonsa is the most likely based on photographic analysis.

Al Jaffee is a cartoonist who has worked at MAD Magazine for more than 60 years and is one of its most well known and most consistent contributors with only one issue between 1964 and 2013 not containing his material. One of his most well known features is his 'Fold-In' in which a photo can be folded and manipulated to create another image.

In Person Success - Jazz Musicians Jack DeJohnette and John Scofield

Jack DeJohnette is a Grammy Award winning drummer who is undoubtedly one of the most influential jazz drummers of all time. He started his career in the 1960s and has released 35 albums as bandleader as well as playing on almost 200 others. He is perhaps most notable for his time as drummer for the legendary Miles Davis from the 60s to the 70s playing on 13 of his albums including the groundbreaking 'Bitches Brew'.

John Scofield is a 3-time Grammy Award winning jazz guitarist who began his career in the late 1970s and has released more than 50 albums as well as playing on almost 100 others for legendary musicians such as Herbie Hancock and Miles Davis, with whom he remained as his guitarist for 3 years beginning in 1982.

They recently performed a concert together in Ottawa and I was able to get their autographs following their show.

F.W. de Klerk served as President of South Africa from 1989 to 1994 and was the last South African President to serve under the apartheid era. He played a crucial role in ending the apartheid policies of segregation and racial discrimination in the country, early on in his presidency, lifting the bans on the African National Congress and Communist Party of South Africa as well as releasing Nelson Mandela from prison and formally negotiating the voting rights of all South Africans. Mikhail Gorbachev served as the 8th leader of the Soviet Union, serving as General Secretary of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union from 1985 to 1991 and Head of State of the country from 1988 to 1991. Gorbachev's policies of 'glasnost' (openness) and 'perestroika' (restructuring) and his reorientation of Soviet strategic aims largely contributed to the end of the Cold War. Jerry Pate is a golfer who currently tours on the PGA Tour Champions and was formerly with the PGA. He won the 1976 US Open and 1976 Canadian Open in his first year as a professional golfer.
